Nagarkot and the Bunjee
We didnt get to see the sunset or sunrise in Nagarkot because it was too misty. We were met at the hotel by this funny looking wheeler-dealer type of guy, Janok, who managed the hotel. As he was showing us to our rooms he commented with a very enthusiastic 'WOWWWW' on the definition of Sams chest, which was hillarious. Later on that night we lit the fire in the room which was a up turn to the downer of not seeing the sunset. He also presented us with the idea of staring in a Nepalese music video, as he claimed that his friend was a producer, Sam was ill so he had no time for the guy, but Dave a Jack throught it was a good idea at the time, as he clamied that it would be broadcast in 4 countries. Sam was dubious about the guy from the start, rightly so as the day progressed. During the day he asked for a deposit for the taxi booked to the last resort, which we gave him.
The next day he came in to order breakfast and once again his eyes lit up and once again the with the 'WOWWW' as he saw Jack in his tartan underwear and commented on his phsique. Because sam was ill we decided to go straight to Kathmandu to get some medicine rather than the last resort to do the bunjee because all that was there was tents for people doing the bunjee. This then escalated into an long and confusing discussion between ourselves, Janok and the taxi driver. Janok lied about all the distances it took to get to places trying to make us go to the last resort when we wanted to go to Kathmandu, he didnt book a taxi, he booked a private car and the driver had cancelled a trek to come and take us to the last resort as he also had family there. Janok was sayin the driver has lost out on all this money because the guy cancelled the trek. After an hour of talking we finally got transport to kathmandu.
It was only later on in the taxi that the driver mentioned that he never recieved the 4000 rupee (35 quid deposit) and we got told that the man didnt cancel his trek he just gave it to a friend to take and lost no money at all. He also took 1500 rupees out of the 4500 rupees that we payed the driver to go to kathmandu for 'commission'. So he basically conned us and made everything very awkward when we were trying to ask to go to kathmandu, as he was stirring things up in nepalese with the driver so we coulsnt understand.
At the moment we are in kathmandu ready for the Annapurna Sanctuary trek to start on the 10th Feb. Sam reported Janok to the tourist police and Nepal is very serious about people conning the tourists as its such a vital industry to them so the tourist police dont just fine people and thats it, they deal with it in their 'own way', but Janok will get everything that is deserved.
